TRC Calls to Action: #43
Reconciliation
Canadian Governments and the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous People
43. We call upon federal, provincial, territorial, and municipal governments to fully adopt and implement the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous People as the framework for reconciliation.
While the federal government has not yet adopted and implemented UNDRIP as the framework for reconciliation, it has formally committed to doing so.
Provincially, the BC government has committed to legislate UNDRIP in order to move forward on reconciliation in concrete ways, and will be the first province to do so.
In Victoria, we have seen some action from our municipal government toward reconciliation.
I'd be interested to hear from people in other parts of Canada who are aware of any action taken in their provinces and communities, or what they've noticed with regards to UNDRIP and reconciliation.
